As we approach the end of Fright Nights and following my recent return to check out their mazes as part of the Attraction Source ScareMazing Event, I have a much better idea of this year’s mazes and, therefore, a better idea of how I feel about the different mazes we have on offer for 2024. So here are my thoughts and reviews of this year, ranked by what I enjoyed the most.
1st Place – Stitches – a big favourite of mine for 2023, remains in 1st place for 2024. I still find Stitches very enjoyable especially Mr Clappy who gives me plenty of frights still as I go through the maze. Check out my Behind the Screams pictures of the maze here.
2nd Place – DeadBeat – New for 2024, DeadBeat comes in at 2nd place, I still feel like Stitches was the stronger maze however, DeadBeat also has some good jumpscares when there is enough actors inside of it. There was improvements in DeadBeat from when I was at Frioght Nights on opening day, so I do feel like it is such a better maze now. Check out my Behind the Screams pictures of the maze here.
3rd Place – Trailers – For 2024 they have made some changes in the maze including having ‘The Director’ at the start of the maze before you go through into the main parts of it. There is areas that have been unchanged and just feel ‘boring’ now however, a welcome improvement is having Platform 15, Buckwheats and a nod to DeathsDoors in the maze, but I feel like they could have done so much more with the new parts being added. The bedroom scene of the maze is still there but being used for Platform 15 which is very confusing, they could have done something so much better with it and removed that bedroom area fully and put more nods to Platform 15 in.
4th Place – Survival Games – Returning again for another year while they have made some slight changes i.e. voting for the person to be electrocuted on the chair at the start, this year it just felt so boring and no effort was being made to Survival Games. While the actors do a good job in the maze there are too many hit or miss within the maze where you could be in and out very quickly this year compared to previous years of it operating and even friends I was with had no interaction at all with any actors whereas on one of my runs, I had a small interaction with them.
If you were to ask me which maze I would remove for 2025, I would have to say to replace both Survival Games and Trailers, as they just feel so lacking now possibly due to how long they have been running at Thorpe.
I just feel that Stitches and DeadBeat offer so much more to Fright Nights and are by far the more enjoyable mazes to go into.
