In our view, Alton Towers is one of the worst attractions when using Public Transport to reach. Although, if you are driving it’s very easy to get to (OK depending what time you arrive, there could be a big queue).

Ross always attends Alton Towers using Public Transport, so knows all too well the struggles many face, and also the annoyance that it causes.

One of the easiest ways is if you travel by train is to go to Uttoxeter Station, there is always plenty of taxi’s waiting to take you to Alton Towers, however, this costs approx. £25 per way. So if yo u are travelling by yourself its not cheap!

The biggest annoyance is that there is only 1 bus! that will take you from the station and back from Alton Towers each day. This has to be the most disappointing side of using public transport. So if your train is running late you will miss the bus, or if the park is open until late, you need to leave the park early!

D&G Buses run a daily service to/from Alton Towers – X41.

When you get the bus, you can get it from Stafford Railway Station at 08:40 or, from Uttoxeter Train Station at 09:14. This is the only bus that operates, and also only operates when Alton Towers is open to the public.

Coming back from Alton Towers, the bus departs at 17:30. So if the park closes early, you have a bit of a wait, or if the park closes late, you need to leave early. The bus is £12 adult return from Stafford, or £10 adult return from Uttoxeter.

Uber is also available, although in the past I have found it more difficult to get a Uber Taxi, especially when leaving Alton Towers.

There is of course many taxi’s available and you could pre-book a taxi if you use it to go to Alton Towers to pick you up again at a suitable time.

Uttoxeter Train Station

When you arrive at Uttoxeter Train Station, follow the footpath past the taxi rank and you will find the bus stop, hopefully, you haven’t missed the 09:14 bus, but as a note, its not scheduled to leave the stop until 09:20.
