The London Resort

The London Resort was a proposed Theme Park to be located in Kent, England.

The project was launched back in 2012 and would feature Europe’s largest indoor water park, theaters, live music venues, attractions, cinemas, event space and hotels.

The original initial completion date was for 2019, with the expected employment of 27,.000 people.

The park was initially planned in partnership with Paramount Pictures and would go on to be known as London Paramount Entertainment Resort with emphasis on Britain and Kent along with Paramount films and entertainment properties.  The team later agreed a separation from Paramount.

At the time, there was major backing from the British Government which would allow the work to take place bypassing local planning requirements.

In April 2013 newspaper reports claimed development may be delayed by the discovery of a rare species of spider. Sefton pledged to remove the colony of distinguished jumping spiders (Attulus distinguendus) to another suitable site.

There was then in 2019 a first look revealed in what the resort would look like.

Between 2019 and 2021, there was them some consultation starting up with additional plans drawn up for the development of the new park of which looked very exciting and could resort in a very good place to visit and enjoy!

There was then a set-back in November 2021 as the area being moved to a ‘Site of Special Interest’ by Natural England.  Which could then prevent future development on the site.  The team however despite this were still pushing ahead with the plan’s to build the park.

Then in April 2022, The London Resort had withdrawn their application for the proposed theme park for the time being.

Not much more was being said about the project until January 2023, when it was announced that there would be a major scale back in the planning and it would no longer be access the 535 acre site.

After this, in March 2023, a sign that the project was very much doomed, Financial Administrators were then appointed however, the project would still continue with new plans due to be resubmitted later that year.

November 2023 it was announced that The London Resort were being sued by Paramount Global in the high court.  The court case revolves around a restructuring implemented in April this year by London Resort Company Holdings. This gave creditors equity in exchange for money owed.

Fast forward to January 2024 where Adbulla Al-Humaidi a key backer of the troubled London Resort was declared bankrupt at a High Court hearing with creditors reported to be chasing millions of pounds.

There hasn’t been anything else said about the project and we are very safe to assume that this will never sadly happen.

On the 27th June 2024, Kent Online has reported that the land has now been put up for sale with a deadline for offers being July 26, 2024.  This comes as no surprise with the amount of set backs and lack for progress.
